I THOUGHT IT WAS TIME TO CLEAR UP SOME COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS. IT'S OFFICIAL, OVER THE LAST 10 YEARS, FAA LICENSED PILOTS HAVE THE BEST SAFETY RECORD IN EUROPE. That's no accident! 1. FAA 61.75 RESTRICTED LICENSE - Requires a Biennial flight review by an FAA Certified Flight Instructor. Initially & every two calendar years thereafter. A flight review by a non-FAA Instructor does not meet the legal requirement. 2. JAA LICENSE - Does not permit you to fly a US registered aircraft across international boundaries or for hire or reward. That includes flight instruction. This is regardless of whether or not you have UK DFT permission! 3. UK IMC RATING - Does not permit the operation of a US registered aircraft in IMC. Anywhere in the world. Including the UK! 4. UK IMC INSTRUCTORS - Are not permitted to give any instruction toward an FAA instrument rating. 5. UK BCPL/INSTRUCTORS - Are not permitted to give instruction toward an FAA Commercial license. 6. IFR - Does not mean IMC. It is possible to be IFR all day long but still not be in IMC. 7. IFR - It is legally impossible to be IFR from start up to shutdown anywhere in the world, including Europe. 8. FROZEN ATP - There is no such thing! You are either an ATP or you are not. 9. GREY AREA - Term used by many pilots when they would prefer that a regulation or rule means something entirely different then what is actually says. Example: The small group of pilots around Europe insisting that item #1 above does not apply to them. Some of the above items are typical reasons for unsuccessful insurance claims as well as prosecution. Is it really worth it?
